To counter an abortion rate that approaches 70% among students, a Vietnamese prelate, Bishop Cosme Hoàng Van Dat of Bac Ninh, founded a home for unwed mothers in 2009.
Dominican sisters operate the home, which currently has 50 residents.
“Hundreds of unfortunate young women and girls have rediscovered happiness and value in their own lives,” Sister Maria Hao told AsiaNews.
“Every evening, children and mothers participate in the Mass in the local parish church,” she added. “Two-thirds of abandoned mothers who come to the clinic are non-Catholic, but when they leave the center to return home to their parents, most are baptized.”
