Schools of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem that choose to use solar panels to produce electricity increase. This is what is referred by official sources of the Latin Patriarchate, announcing the next installation of Solar power energy in the schools of the Jordanian city of Wasiyeh, Madaba and Karak. In Palestine the patriarchal schools in Beit Jala, Beit Sahour and Ramallah have already opted for solar panels
The introduction of solar power energy systems - explain the sources of the Patriarchate - reduce electricity bills and allows to re-use the saved money in training activities. But the initiative is itself a great opportunity to raise students' awareness on ecology and renewable energy and prevent the emission of carbon dioxide. The ecological “new course” of schools and Catholic institutions in Holy Land was opened two years ago by the Latin Catholic Church of the Twelve Apostles in Zarqa which was the first parish in the Middle East that used the sun to produce energy through installing solar panels. “The idea”, said to Agenzia Fides Fr. Elias kurzum “came to me in summer, seeing the sun that here in the desert in June, July and August makes us suffer the heat ... I thought, why not try to exploit it”. The pilot project at the parish of the Twelve Apostles was made possible thanks to the contribution of Oeuvre d'Orient, a French organization that supports the Middle Eastern Christian communities.
